Fiat Panda (04 - 12)
The interior room, nippy engines and excellent driving position are among the traits that have made the Panda so popular since its inception. It doesn’t cost much to keep on the road and the fuel consumption is decent so it’s a practical car. Even though it’s small the cabin is quite spacious and can comfortably seat four adults. The boot, although not the biggest in class, has plenty of room for luggage and the back seats can fold down to create even more. In terms of driving, you’ve got a choice of three engines; the 1.1-litre petrol, 1.2-litre petrol and the 1.3-litre diesel. They aren’t the most powerful but are perfect for city driving and perform really well cruising on the motorway. The two petrol engines are economical machines, pushing out 54bhp and 69bhp, while returning 56 and 57 miles to the gallon respectively. The diesel is the most powerful of the three, churning out 70bhp, 145nm of torque and returning 65mpg.
Look out for
• There has been some claims of the tailgate release mechanism getting jammed. Check before buying
What we like
• The Panda is great value for money
• Distinctive looks outside, refined and comfortable inside
• It’s fun and really easy to drive
• Decent sized boot for added practicality
• Has a good level of standard equipment
• Impressive amount of space inside for a small car
What we don't like
• For some reason split/fold seat don’t come as standard
• There’s a fair bit of road noise and buffeting because of its height & shape
